Joel Leal accepts Assistant Professor position at Lincoln University of Missouri

In July 2024, Joel Leal accepted a new position as Assistant Professor at Lincoln University of Missouri!

Joel will work on understanding the genetic architecture of complex phenotypes using sheep as animal models. His research will use biotechnology tools to discover genomic regions influencing productive phenotypes such as growth, body structure determined by ultrasound, and immune response. He will employ transcription and metabolome to identify potential mediation effects and associated pathways, aiming at discovering the biological mechanism through which these genomic regions can contribute to phenotypic variability.

Joel's research will also address the environment-genotype interaction to understand and mitigate the potential deleterious effects of climate change on animal selection and genetic progress.

We said goodbye to Joel at a lab lunch in July as he concluded his postdoctoral fellowship at Palmer Lab - see the picture in the Photo Gallery.

Congratulations, Joel!
