Dr. Abraham Palmer will continue as Vice Chair of Basic Science Research in the UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry

We are pleased to announce that after a department-wide search, Dr. Abraham Palmer has been selected to continue as Vice Chair of Basic Science Research in the UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry. In this role, Dr. Palmer will continue to provide leadership and strategic vision to advance foundational scientific research in psychiatry, strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations, mentor faculty and trainees, and enhance the department’s basic science research infrastructure.
Dr. Palmer commenced the role of Vice Chair of Basic Science Research in 2016, following the passing of Dr. Athina Markou, and has since helped guide the department through many challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the department’s research trajectory and fostering a strong scientific community.
As Vice Chair of Basic Science Research, Dr. Palmer will continue to play a pivotal role in advancing our department’s mission to drive innovation in psychiatric research, support faculty and trainees in their scientific pursuits, and cultivate a collaborative and dynamic research environment that fosters groundbreaking discoveries in mental health.
