Zachary Tatom selected to be an NIAAA T32 Fellow
Dr. Zachary Tatom has been selected to receive a two year postdoctoral slot on the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) T32 for fall 2025, with Dr. Palmer as his mentor. Under the fellowship, Zachary will engage in alcohol research and studies within Palmer Lab with T32 support for up to two years.
This alcohol research training grant is an Institutional Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) T32 grant funded by the NIAAA within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), created to prepare trainees for careers in academic settings with encouraged specialization in alcohol research. Specifically, it assists trainees in obtaining skills necessary for the conception, planning, and conduct of research in alcohol studies and subsequent presentation and publication of results.
Zachary's research will focus on dissecting the genetic architecture of alcohol-related phenotypes using a combination of human and animal model data, including from heterogenous stock (HS) rats. He aims to identify shared genetic mechanisms and pathways underlying traits related to alcohol use disorder (AUD).
Zachary joined the Palmer Lab in October 2024 after receiving his PhD in human and molecular genetics from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
Congratulations, Zachary!
