The 11th annual retreat for the NIDA Center of Excellence for Genetics, Genomics, and Epigenetics of Substance Use Disorders in Outbred Rats was held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the University of California San Diego.

The 22nd Annual Meeting of the Complex Trait Community (CTC) was held October 21 to 24, 2025 at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, Spain in collaboration with the Rat Genomics Community.

Palmer Lab members Dr. Palmer, Dr. Oksana Polesskaya, Dr. Thiago Sanches, Dr. Montana Lara, Dr. Zachary Tatom, and Apurva Chitre attended and presented in person.

Dr. Palmer gave a talk titled “Genetic evidence supports a relationship between locomotor activity in a novel environment in rodents a human externalizing behavior” at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) annual team meeting for Genetics and Epigenetics Cross-Cutting Research on September 11, 2025 at the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, MD.

His talk was during the session titled “Harnessing Model Organism Genetics and Genomics in the Understanding the Role of Human Genetic Variation in SUDs,” which he co-chaired with Dr. Elissa Chesler.

On June 27, 2025, Dr. Abraham Palmer presented at the Festschrift event held in honor of Harriet de Wit at the University of Chicago.

He co-organized the event with Hanna Molla (University of Chicago).

Brittany gave a talk titled “Getting the runaround: is the locomotor response to a novel environment a model of human externalizing behavior?” for the 18th Annual Genetics Training Program Retreat at UC San Diego on May 23, 2025.

The Palmer Lab ran a booth at Neuroscience 2024 in Chicago featuring our RATTACA project.

The conference was held at the McCormick Place Convention Center from October 5-9, 2024.

Eight members from the Palmer Lab attended the 21st Annual Meeting of the Complex Trait Community | Rat Genome & Models held at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from October 2 to 5, 2024.

The 10th Annual P50/P30 Retreat was held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the University of California San Diego.

Dr. Palmer was invited to present at the third Gordon Research Conference (GRC) in Newry, Maine on August 18-23, 2024.

He gave a talk titled “Studying Intermediate Phenotypes to Elucidate the Genetic Basis of Substance Use Disorders” during the concurrent Neurobiology of Drug Addiction meeting.

Dr. Palmer hosted and presented a talk at a summit for fellow Glo1 researchers at UC San Diego on April 19, 2024. The summit was an occasion for researchers who are working on Glyoxalase 1 (Glo1) to meet and hear about one another’s projects.
