Welcome, Nina!
Michael Rempel joined the Palmer Lab in July 2024 for a five-week internship on the Wet Lab team. His work focuses on genotyping Cadm2 transgenic rats which were created as an animal model to study the effect of mutations on the recursive splice site in Cadm2, which is known to be strongly associated with ADHD in humans.
Michael is a high school student at SET High. He is interested in modern biotechnology, including computational biology. Outside of school, Michael spends time with friends, volunteers at concerts, and helps with native habitat restoration in Rose Canyon.
Welcome, Michael!
The manuscript titled ”Rare and Common Variants Associated with Alcohol Consumption Identify a Conserved Molecular Network” was accepted in Alcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research.

Dr. Palmer hosted and presented a talk at a summit for fellow Glo1 researchers at UC San Diego on April 19, 2024. The summit was an occasion for researchers who are working on Glyoxalase 1 (Glo1) to meet and hear about one another’s projects.
Palmer Lab member and UC San Diego Biomedical Sciences graduate student Brittany Leger presented a research poster at the 19th Annual Lewis L. Judd Young Investigators Research Symposium on April 25, 2024.
Dr. Palmer was invited to give a talk for Loma Linda University’s Center for Genomics seminar series, titled “Using genetics to understand addiction,” held on campus at Loma Linda on April 18, 2024.
He was hosted by Dr. Charles Wang, MD, PhD, MPH, the founding director of the Center.
The manuscript titled “Genome-Wide Association Studies of Coffee Intake in UK/US Participants of European Ancestry Uncover Cohort-Specific Genetic Associations” was accepted for publication in Neuropsychopharmacology.
